While COP 21 is inaugurating a new phase of commitment on climate, the Ocean Climate Platform disclosed the content of its advocacy at the November 12th 2015 press release- in the presence of Ségolène Royal, French Minister of Ecology- in order for ocean and coastal zones related issues to be gradually taken into consideration via specific measures and included in the various axes of negotiation.

A video, made by the Russian military’s TV channel and now published on YouTube with English subtitles, unveils some details on the Russian Arktichesky Trilistnik (Arctic Trefoil) in the Archipelago of Franz Joseph Land (80N). The new complex, which will be completed by the end of the year, will be a permanent structure on the 80th parallel in the far north Arctic where 150 soldiers can live autonomously for up to 2 years.

Sea ice in the arctic

The 1st Central European Polar Meeting will be held 10th-13th November 2015 in Vienna. This meeting is a memorial to the Austrian polar explorer and scientist Julius Payer (1841-1915), to commemorate his achievements for the international polar sciences. It is jointly organized by the Committee on Polar Research of the Polish Academy of Sciences, the Centre for Polar Ecology, Czech Republic, and the Austrian Polar Research Institute, in cooperation with the National Committee for Global Change of the Austrian Academy of Sciences.

Main Arctic Routes, EEZs, and Ice Conditions

The Fennica, a multipurpose icebreaker and platform supply vessel, and the Nordica, also equipped with a 160-ton crane, both owned by the Finnish Arctia, reached the harbour of Nuuk on October 31st, after a "late-season" journey through the Northwest passage.
