Purpose
Lead development of the Institute’s Arctic Program and manage its various projects.

To that end, we conduct research, engage citizens in civil discourse, conduct educational activities and advocate for policies consistent with our mission. Our work is organized into three geographic program areas: Alaska, the broader Arctic, and in the Developing World.
Job Description
This position reports to the Executive Director and will be responsible for leading the Institute’s flagship Arctic program. Your core responsibilities will include project management of two existing projects: the Arctic Indigenous Exchange Program and the Arctic Resilient Communities Youth Fellowship. For both projects, you will be responsible for all day-to-day activities and delivering on program objectives.
In addition to managing these existing programs, you will publicly represent the Institute and help to develop and implement a strategy for further developing our Arctic program. This may include writing grant proposals, networking, and traveling to participate in international Arctic events/conferences.
Work Structure & Location
This is a flexible, full-time, remote/hybrid position. Preferred candidates would reside in Alaska, Canada or Greenland, where most existing program activities take place. Additional preference will be given to candidates in or near Anchorage Alaska, to allow for more effective in-person collaboration. No relocation is provided for out-of-state applicants.
All employees must be able to telework effectively with teams around the world. Since program activities will take place across multiple time zones, employees must be willing to accommodate occasional late/early meetings. Employees based in Anchorage will be able to utilize two coworking facilities in the city, including the Institute’s main office.
Duties and Responsibilities
Primary responsibility for this role will include management of two existing programs, the Arctic Indigenous Exchange Program and Arctic Resilient Communities Youth Fellowship. Regular duties for these projects will include:
- Developing, monitoring and maintaining project scopes, schedules and budgets
- Building and managing teams
- Preparing and filing various project updates and compliance reports
- Facilitating meetings and tracking action items
- Drafting various program-related documents
- Coordinating program exchanges, events and activities
- Assist with fundraising activities
Work with the Executive Director to develop and implement a strategy for developing/expanding the Institute’s Arctic Program. This may include
- Drafting new program and grant proposals
- Outreach to partner organizations
- Coordinating or participating in various events
Qualifications
Experience:
- Management of complex projects, including development and maintenance of budgets and schedules
- Experience filing reports and meeting grant requirements, preferred
- Experience working with Arctic indigenous and policy groups, preferred
Education:
- 4-year undergraduate degree
- Project Management System certification, preferred
Skills:
- Strong verbal and written communications skills, including the ability to adopt different tones (informal, formal, persuasive, etc.)
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Self-motivated and disciplined, with the ability to remote work effectively
- Ability to work across different cultures and age groups
Salary & Benefits
$85K-$110K DOE. The Institute does not currently offer any supplemental benefits, including health or retirement. Flexible PTO and vacation, so long as work obligations are met.
Working Hours
Work performance is evaluated based on outcome. While workload should not exceed a standard 40 work week, employees are free to set their own hours.
