The Arctic is the northernmost region of Earth. Most scientists define the Arctic as the area within the Arctic Circle, a line of latitude about 66.5° north of the Equator.
Other definitions are:
- 10°C July isotherm line that is defined as being the area where the average temperature for the warmest month (July) is below 10°C / 50°F.
- Arctic Human Development Report (AHDR) line.
- Arctic Emergency Prevention, Preparedness and Response (EPPR) line.
- The line of the conservation of Arctic Flora and Fauna (CAFF).
- The line of the Arctic Monitoring and Assessment Programme (AMAP).
- The Arctic Tree line boundary that is the northernmost latitude in the Northern Hemisphere where trees can grow, farther north it is too cold all year round to sustain trees.
