On April 24th 2015, the Governments of Greenland and Nunavut issued a press release regarding the Revision of the EU Seal Ban Regulation. Regulation 1007/2009, which bans the entry into the EU market of seal products not deriving from "traditional" Inuit hunt, has been for many years one of the thorny issues in the EU-Canada and EU-Greenland relations.

At the ninth Arctic Council Ministerial Meeting, held in Iqaluit on 24 and 25 of April, the US took over the chairmanship of the Council and appointed U.S. Secretary of State John F. Kerry as the new Chair. "There's only one Arctic and all of us – the United States, other nations, indigenous peoples, and Arctic communities - must join together to ensure responsible stewardship of this incredible region John F. Kerry stated introducing the theme chosen by the US for their chairmanship: "One Arctic: Shared Opportunities, Challenges and Responsibilities ".

The Board of the University of Lapland decided in its meeting on the 21st of April 2015 to advertise for a new Director of the Arctic Centre in an international search. The search will be opened in May 2015.

Papers are invited for a forthcoming special issue of the journal Advances in Polar Science (APS), entitled "Current Research on Atmospheric Aerosols and Trace Gases over the Polar Regions (AATGPR)". This special issue is scheduled to be published in September of 2015, instead of December 2015 as initially scheduled, and the deadline for paper submission is 31 May 2015.

After the loss of the company's equity, announced in January 2015, and after several months during which the Board of Director of NunaMinerals has continued to seek for a solutions capable to provide the necessary funding for NunaMinerals to continue its operations, the Board has announced yesterday that the company is therefore to be insolvent, and that there are no other solution than filing for bankruptcy to the Court of Greenland as soon as possible.

The European Commission organises a series of stakeholder workshops on the further development of the EU's Arctic policy. The first event will take place in Rovaniemi on 29 April 2015 and will bring together key stakeholders from business, academia and the public sector to discuss indigenous peoples' rights, regional cooperation, infrastructure development and mining. The second event will take place in Oslo on 27 May 2015 and will focus on issues such as energy, climate change and research.

Future Greenland 2015 is the fourth in the series of Future Greenland conferences that Greenland Business Association organises every second year. In 2013, the attendance record was set by 450 participants who took part in animated debates and workshops under the conference title "From vision to realisation".
