ABSTRACT
UN Environment Live – is a free, dynamic, open access, on-line platform for sharing data and knowledge to keep the environment under review.
Environment Live supports Environmental Policy through Foresight, Outlooks and Assessments and providing Capacity Building for countries to achieve the Goals of Agenda 2030 and Sustainable Development.
Environment Live provides:
- up-to-date information for citizen science, communities of practice and impact stories and case studies on the environment and people.
- the UN Member States open access to information and knowledge on the environment at the global, regional and national levels based upon Country’s priorities and needs.
- Multiple benefits to UN Member States including inter-alia: increasing visibility of a country's progress and enhancing transparency facilitating interdisciplinary research and integrated research environmental assessments; advancing knowledge and enriching information-sharing; promoting Indicator Reporting Information systems for policy making.
- More than 3,455 data flows from 193 UN Member States, 6 UN Environment regions, 5 additional regional groupings and 5 thematic areas of interest. The platform is continuously updated.
- data visualization's - charts with access to the raw data as downloads, maps including user ability to easily create own maps with the mapping functionalities.
- analysis and context on key issues such as those that track internationally agreed goals, SDG Synergies, track pollution, emission impacts and climate change; air quality, coral reefs etc.
SPEAKER
- Professor Alexandre Caldas is a Director in the United Nations Organisation. His current role is Chief of Country Outreach, Technology and Innovation, in the Science Division of UN Environment. He has more than 25 years’ experience in science and technology policy across Academia, Industry, and Government and International organisations.
- He was a Delegate for the Europe – Africa High Level Policy Dialogue in Science, Technology and Innovation, managing a partnership in Food and Sustainable Agriculture between 28 countries in Europe and 54 countries in Africa and Delegate for the NATO Science for Peace and Security Program (2013-2016).
- He was Head of Knowledge and Innovation Communities across 28 countries in Europe, at the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (2012 - 2013, Budapest).
- From 2005 to 2011 he was Portugal's Chief of eGovernment in the PM Office, as director general for the Management Center for the Electronic Government Network.
- Alexandre is Associate Professor of Information Science and Technology Policy (ULHT). He was a Faculty Fellow at Oxford University, the Oxford Internet Institute (2004-2005) and he is currently for more than 12 years now a Research Associate of Oxford University.
- He was a professor and researcher at the London School of Economics and Political Science (2005-2006) and the Science Policy Research Unit, in the United Kingdom (2000-2004). His most recent book is Science and Time (2015)
